2010 Summer Youth Filmmaking Workshops

Sponsored by generous grants from the San Luis Obispo County Community Foundation Arts Inspires! Fund,
the Avalon Foundation and the Patane Foundation
From July 5 to 30, we are offering a one-of-a-kind, hands-on opportunity for aspiring young filmmakers.
Professional director/writer/producers guide young people, aged 7 through 18 (in three different age groups)
through the basics and the finer points of creating short films, from idea to the finished product.
Films will be screened for family and friends on the last day of the workshop.
Participants learn how to work together as a team and also get production
experience in front of and behind the camera.
Each workshop is limited to 12 participants and they fill up fast, so don't wait long to register.

Our 2010 Instructors
Aaron Metchik is a UCLA film school graduate with nearly a decade of experience writing, directing and producing short films. In the summer of 2007, Aaron directed his first professional feature length feature film, which was the opening night film at the 2010 SLOIFF and is now screening at film festivals across the country. The son of a passionate teacher, Aaron enjoys mentoring others and has taught classes and workshops about filmmaking, music video production, and acting at high schools, middle schools and elementary schools. He teaches an ongoing acting class in Shell Beach, one for young students and one for adults, and looks forward to having another opportunity to teach young people about filmmaking, and help them develop their talents.
Ryan Johnson is a professional videographer and filmmaker and owns his own production company, New Rule Productions. Based in Santa Maria, he has spent 19 years producing TV programs, informational video programs, TV commercials and independent features. He has worked with young people on an anti-smoking video campaign and has been making films for as long as he can remember. Ryan has recently completed production on a new web series called TOWNIES, has created a new TV series, THE SKEPTOLOGISTS, currently in development and was the creator, executive producer and director of the AMERICAN DRAGSTER series on ESPN. He has also recently developed a company called SMASHProps, which specializes in Special Effects Breakaway props for the feature film and theatre industries.
Joseph Michael Olesh is the Director of Creative & Social Media at ronsmap.com. An award-winning filmmaker, he was named one of the nation's top 50 video marketers by 50interviews.com. As a Creative Director, Joe led campaigns for Straight Down Clothing and Deutsche Bank, also contributing six commercials to the Barack Obama Presidential Campaign. Collectively, Joseph's videos/commercials have received over one million views on various Social Media platforms. He just finished teaching video production at Mission College Prep.
