Post-SLOIFF news and Wine Winner!

Congratulations to Eric and Dana Michielssen of Pozo Organic Farm!! They just won our “Win 50 Bottles of Wine” drawing and are taking home a lovely selection of wines donated by our generous festival wine sponsors. They were randomly selected among all festival donors who gave $50 or more in support of the 2012 SLOIFF.

Eric and Dana have been loyal supporters of the SLOIFF for several years, so we are delighted to pay them back with major thanks…and 50 bottles of wine! Thanks to all our Central Coast wine sponsors for making this prize possible.

We are very proud to say that the 18th Annual SLO Film Festival had yet another stellar year! Accolades have been pouring in from filmmakers, attendees and special guests since the Festival ended on March 11, and many have said that this year’s film program was the best ever! A record-breaking number of people traveled to San Luis Obispo County this year for the Festival – over one-third of the attendees were from outside SLO County! Special event ticket and pass sales increased substantially this year, and our total ticket/pass revenue is up by 21%.

Major international press put the SLOIFF on the map too! We don’t really want to brag…but the Festival was written and talked about on BBC Radio London, in The Huffington Post, Variety, Indiewire, LA Times, Washington Post, USA Today and on CBS News, just to mention a few. The historic Hearst Castle screening of “Citizen Kane” captured imaginations around the world and many traveled to be here for the screenings at the Hearst Castle Visitor Center. A lucky few also attended a pre-screening tour of the castle which included a conversation with Spotlight Award recipient, Timothy White and an intimate Roman Pool-side reception.

It was a wonderful Festival…and if you don’t believe me, here’s what others are saying:

Return to Mississippi

“It was absolutely one of my best experiences, ever. You did an impeccable job with all the arrangements for my screenings; and your hospitality gave me a feeling of being so welcomed by you, your staff and your volunteers. If that wasn’t enough: your audiences were the most heartful and communicative, in their responses both during and after the screenings, of any film festival I’ve attended, and I’ve been to many with my films. Thanks a thousand times!”
Paul Saltzman, Director, Prom Night in Mississippi and Return to Mississippi

Tjardus and Laura proudly display their Best Documentary Award

“Writing to express our appreciation for your warm hospitality and the chance to see some excellent films in beautiful and unusual settings. Tjardus and I were impressed with the festival’s programming and reach, and loved that it’s spread out over several towns. Our Saturday screening in Paso Robles was a delight!”
Laura Davis & Tjardus Greidanus,
The Shot Felt ‘Round the World

“We absolutely loved SLO and had an amazing time. Our oceanfront hotel room is the nicest place either of us have ever stayed. We were really taken with the whole vibe of the festival–everyone seemed warm and welcoming, furthering my conviction that SLO is the coolest place ever.”
Gwendolyn Oxenham, Pelada

Museum Director, Hoyt Fields, led the private tour of Hearst Castle before the screening of "Citizen Kane"

“THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! That was a profoundly exciting experience and my friends and I had a magnificent time. And we visited the castle the next evening—which made the whole experience, the whole weekend, just fantastic.  What a storybook time.”
Samantha Becker,
DreamWorks Studios

Mike Dailey, David Bawel, Richard Taylor, Frank Boosman and David Gillette in Q&A after King Vidor Award presentation
