We’re all familiar with the naughty little pixie in Disney’s classic animated PETER PAN, but how many know that there was a “real” Tinker Bell? Come and see for yourself, when Margaret Kerry comes to San Luis Obispo for a special appearance at the SLOIFF Headquarters on Saturday, March 9th at 11:00 am. She will also participate in a panel on Movies & Magic on Sunday, March 10th.
Live action models were used in the animation process much like they are today for computerized “motion capture”, but back in the 1950’s, it was a hand-drawn process based on live movement. Although chosen for her dancing and pantomime abilities, Margaret actually did a lot of acting for the role too. “The pouting and anger were fun to do,” she recalled in an interview with Libby Slate for Disney Magazine. “The wonderful directors would communicate so quickly, and if not, they would draw a sketch.”
Margaret Kerry will be signing autographs and posing for photos with Disney/Tinker Bell fans on Saturday, March 9 at 11:00am at the SLOIFF Headquarters, 1007 Monterey St. San Luis Obispo. She will be selling collectible photos and looks forward to meeting her fans. On Sunday, at the Movies & Magic panel, Margaret will discuss the way things were done in the early days of Disney, with contemporary visual effects experts Michael Fink and Jeff Barnes, and magician Rich Ferguson at the Palm Theatre, 10:30am-12:00pm. The panel is only $5 and free to Movie Star and Movie Mogul pass holders.
