This Saturday, December 7 at 12 noon, several members of the LITTLE GIANTS cast will be at the Fair Oaks Theatre in Arroyo Grande for a screening of the popular 1994 family film. Shawna Waldron who played Becky “Icebox” O’Shea, Todd Bosley and Marcus Toji were all kids when the movie was shot in Arroyo Grande. They are looking forward to coming back and sharing stories of the filming. Associate Producer/Production Manager, D. Scott Easton will also be on hand to share his favorite (and not-so-favorite) memories and community members who were involved in the filming are invited to come and share their stories too!
This is the eighth event in the “SLO County on the Silver Screen” series, showcasing Hollywood movies filmed in San Luis Obispo County. A total of 20 films are being shown in the cities they were shot in from August 2013 to March 2014, to celebrate the SLOIFF’s 20th Anniversary, happening March 5-9, 2014. Presented by MidAmerican Solar, owner of Topaz Solar Farms, the fundraising series for the 2014 SLOIFF is also sponsored by Visit San Luis Obispo County & Film Commission; Cliffs Resort, Apple Farm, Sycamore Mineral Springs and SeaVenture Resort; Q104.5 and the New Times.
LITTLE GIANTS tells the story of two competitive brothers in a small town who wind up with opposing peewee football teams. Former college football star Kevin O’Shea (Ed O’Neill, Modern Family) rejects his niece when she tries out for his team, prompting his not-very-athletic brother, Danny (Rick Moranis), to form his own team with Becky “Icebox” O’Shea and a ragtag group of kids also rejected by Kevin, including the awkward and hilarious Jake (Todd Bosley) and Marcus (Marcus Toji.) When the team finds a kid who can actually throw a football, the game is on and the antics begin. Former Cal Poly football player, John Madden, has a fun cameo in the movie along with football greats, Emmett Smith and Tim Brown.
Shawna Waldron, Todd Bosley and Marcus Toji have continued the friendship that began during the shooting of LITTLE GIANTS, as well as continuing their careers as actors. Since LITTLE GIANTS, Shawna has had roles in a variety of movies (The American President), TV series and movies (Family Rules, Ladies Man.) LITTLE GIANTS was Todd Bosley’s first role, and since then he has gone on to a variety of TV series (Scrubs, Seinfeld, The O.C., Weeds) and several movies. Marcus Toji’s has been busy since 1992, in movies and TV shows, including House MD, Malcolm in the Middle and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
The town of Arroyo Grande played the role of “Urbania, Ohio” in the movie, and there are several very recognizable “locations” in the movie, including Grand Avenue, the old town’s main street, where Danny and Kevin race each other in a corvette and a go-cart.
Tickets for LITTLE GIANTS are available online now for $10 general and $8 for students and SLOIFF Film Society members. Tickets will also be available at the door beginning at 11am, and will be only $5 for anyone wearing a football jersey. The Fair Oaks Theatre, located at 1007 Grand Ave. Arroyo Grande, will host the screening at noon on Saturday, December 7th. The movie is rated PG.
