It’s been more than 20 years since Anita Hill was subpoenaed to testify about alleged sexual harassment by Clarence Thomas, who was undergoing Senate confirmation for the Supreme Court at the time. Hill’s testimony sparked a national conversation on the issue of workplace sexual harassment, but many questions were left unanswered at the hearing’s end.
In a new documentary, ANITA, Hill tells her story for the first time on film since the hearing. The film’s director, Freida Mock, says the film tries to bring resolution to the hearing’s many unanswered questions. This beautifully crafted and eye-opening film is her follow up to last year’s, award-winning documentary, G-DOG, which won the “Best in the Fest” award at the SLO International Film Festival.
ANITA will be released later in March (which incidentally is Women’s History Month) and we are delighted to bring it to Central Coast audiences for an exciting Sneak Preview. This event is sponsored by the Women’s Legacy Fund, who have partnered with us several times to bring important, cutting-edge new films to San Luis Obispo.
A stimulating panel discussion will happen after the movie, with a group of local professionals, as well as Freida Mock who will be calling in live from wherever she is at the time (she travels a lot!) Rachel Fernflores, Associate Professor of Philosophy at Cal Poly will moderate the panel which will include Attorney Jacqueline Frederick and Betsey Nash, Senior HR Specialist. This is going to be a fascinating and inspiring event and we encourage men and women of all ages to attend.
