The dust is settling and…

…all of us at the SLO Film Fest want to thank our community and all the Festival visitors for helping to make this Festival another fun, exciting, interesting and memorable one! Perhaps the best one ever!

If you want to relive some of the great films, events and parties, go to our Facebook page where you’ll find lots of photos, courtesy of Alan Fraser and Johannes Beals. We’ll continue to add more so watch for updates!

I almost always forget to thank a few important people in speeches at events, and this year I did it again!! So I wish to take a moment to recognize a few “luminaries” who have worked on the SLO Film Fest throughout the past year and contributed so much.

sandra and bruceSandra Sansoni
worked tirelessly this past fall to coordinate a large fundraising event in November called “A Night in Havana”. She brought together a great team and donors who assembled a gorgeous event complete with silent and live auctions, fantastic food and wine, specialty cocktails and a beautiful setting in the Masonic Lodge. THANK YOU SANDRA for all your hard work and devotion to the SLO Film Fest. She has also been on the SLO Film Fest Board for a number of years (along with hubby Bruce Ekmanian) and they have both made valuable contributions we are very grateful for.

2008 Surf NiteSurf Nite in SLO
has been an “institution” now at the SLO Film Fest for 11 years. For 10 of those years, Tim Eidson has been the coordinator of this incredible festival event that has international recognition and has consistently been the Festival’s most successful event each year. He knows the local Surf crowd and what they want to see/hear and each year, we’ve come up with unique and memorable special guests and films….sometimes more than a dozen special guests at a time. And if you’ve ever tried to coordinate a bunch of surfers who live all over the world, you’ll know it’s much harder than herding cats. Way to go Tim!!! You Rule Dude.

Plummer brothersLastly, I was remiss in not mentioning the many hours and talents that have been donated by the Plummer Brothers and their wonderful parents. Last year, Kyle and Carlos Plummer from Cambria, and their parents Jeff and Lilliana, were everywhere, filming behind-the-scenes moments and interviews. They were edited into a fast-paced exciting promotional video you can find on Youtube. This year, Kyle is away at college, but Carlos (only 15 yrs old!!) has been on the move throughout the festival, with his incredible parents assisting, and he’s making another promo video for us. We are SO excited to see the final result. Thank you to all the Plummers…and Kyle, we missed you this year…but your brother was awesome. Thanks to Board Member Joe Patane for his assistance too!

Congratulations to the winning filmmakers! All the winning films are posted on the website so check out who won. There were so many great films, it’s always hard to choose winners. Thanks to all the filmmakers who shared their wonderful movies with us. There were some very special “festival moments” this year because of them. Please share any favorite “festival moments” you had with me and our staff/board – send to info@slofilmfest.org. I will post them (so keep them clean 😉

Movies Matter! Thanks again for a great year!
