Why Movies Matter! And a few nice words from a filmmaker…

Ever wonder what the point of a film festival really is? MovieMaker Magazine’s current issue has an interesting article that explains well the importance of film festivals in the constantly evolving movie industry: Film Festival Court of Controversy: Today’s Festivals Moderate Discussions Long Before Films Reach Theatres.

The article features a SLO Film Fest alum documentary filmmaker, Eric Merola who was here in SLO twice with his films about BURZYNSKI and his controversial cancer treatment. As we’ve been saying for years, Movies Matter! …and the SLO Film Fest is proud to connect with a wide variety of charitable organizations fighting the good fight, whether it be about cancer, hunger, poverty, education, activism or other important issues. There’s a movie for everything and everybody!

A panel of cancer patients joined filmmaker Eric Merola for a frank discussion after the screening of "Burzynski" at the Fremont Theatre.

Stay tuned for news on a series of film events we are presenting this fall in conjunction with a number of local non-profits!

Meanwhile, we aren’t too proud to share this wonderful article about our Festival written by a very recent festival alum, Betsy Kalin, who was here in March with her feature-length documentary, East LA Interchange. Read article: SLO Ride MMM 2016

Enjoy the last dog days of summer! See you at the movies!
