EAT MY SHORTS!
Hosted by Krush 92.5 radio personality David Wilson of Grape Encounters Radio, you’ll see everything from short animation and fiction to more serious and informative docs – there’s something for everyone. And if watching movies about food makes you hungry, at intermission you’ll have the opportunity to eat and drink delicious offerings from local restaurants, caterers, wineries and breweries. All this for the ridiculously low price of $25. Proceeds go directly to the 2017 SLO Film Fest operations fund.
SHORT & SWEET
One hundred years ago, the majority of movies were short…and often sweet or funny or both. Early silent film actress Mary Pickford, known as “America’s Sweetheart,”was so much more than just another pretty face on the flickering screen however. One of the founding members of both United Artists and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, she was an astute businesswoman and an important role model for generations of women who followed her lead.
Join us for an evening of short silent films that highlight Mary Pickford and are accompanied by the talented Malibu Coast Silent Film Orchestra. Maria Newman, daughter of multi-Oscar winning film composer Alfred Newman, leads the seven piece ensemble on violin with her own original compositions for each film.
Set in the intimate Venetian Room at the Madonna Inn, the evening will begin with specially selected wines and an introduction by film historian Hugh Monro Neely, former president of the Mary Pickford Foundation. While enjoying the movies and music, you’ll feast on a choice of prime rib, salmon or a vegetarian dish, and sample award-winning wines from Central Coast wineries. Movie-related trips and items will also be offered in a live auction. The event will wrap up with world-famous Madonna Inn desserts to make the evening complete…and so sweet!
Don’t miss this unique evening of movies, music and gastronomic delights while helping to support the 2017 SLO Film Fest, happening March 14-19, 2017. Consider staying at the Madonna Inn! Click here to reserve a room.
