Fun Fall Film Festivities & Facebook Freebees

There’s a new chill in the air, making it a perfect time for movies and movie activities! New Oscar-contenders are appearing in movie theatres now, and we at the SLO Film Fest are busily working on another epic week of film, wine and fun next March!

Meanwhile, we have a Fabulous Fall Fundraiser in just a little more than a month that we don’t want you to miss! Not only is it going to be a memorable night of film and music, the money we generate from it REALLY helps to support the costs of the 2018 SLO Film Festival, happening March 13-18, 2018.

If you haven’t seen a silent film with live musical accompaniment, this is your chance! If you have, you’ll know what an amazing experience it is.

The 1925 original silent version of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is playing on Thursday, October 26th at Cal Poly’s Performing Arts Center. Bay Area organist, Christian Elliott, will be playing his original score on the majestic Forbes Pipe Organ in Harmon Hall…and that alone is well worth the price of admission. But before he plays, Tony Award winning singer/actor, Anthony Crivello will perform a couple of the most well-known songs from the Broadway show that he performed as the “Phantom” in Las Vegas for over five years. Joining him for the title song will be Opera SLO’s Alba Franco-Cancél in a spine-tingling duet!

Come in costume and compete for festival passes…and take your chances in a raffle to win a wide variety of prizes to be announced soon! Doors open at 6pm and costume judging will happen before the 7pm event begins. Winners will be invited to the stage to collect their prizes!

Tickets are available now at pacslo.org, by calling (805) 756-4849 or purchase at the box office. $40 for general admission, $30 for students and SLO Film Fest Film Society members.

This event is presented by BHE Renewables, and also generously sponsored by News Talk Radio KVEC 920am, The Krush 92.5, and Quality Suites Downtown San Luis Obispo.

Hope to see you there!

The Central Coast Writer’s Conference at Cuesta College starts on Thursday, September 28, and the SLO Film Fest is proudly sponsoring the opening night movie and keynote speaker. Tom Schulman won an Oscar for his screenplay for DEAD POET’S SOCIETY, and will be speaking before the movie.

The evening begins with a reception at 5pm, and it is all part of a full conference pass which includes two full days (Friday and Saturday) of incredible workshops and panels for writers and writers-to-be. We are giving away two passes on Facebook so watch for the opportunity to win! Just send us the name of your favorite writer to be entered into a drawing that will happen on Monday, September 25th at noon.

Tickets to opening night are also available separately, as are conference passes. Just go to the website for more details.

See you at the movies!
