JACK SMITH
Jack has been involved in skateboarding since 1964 when his dad built him a skateboard. He began competing at the 1975 Bahne-Cadillac Del Mar Nationals. His competition career include numerous slalom and downhill championships. Jack skateboarded across America in 1976 with two friends and completed three more transcontinental skateboard rides in 1984, 2003, 2013. He was the overall World Skatecar Champion in 1978 with a top speed 59.27mph. During the late 1970s he was involved in the development of modern sandboarding and in 1979 he founded A-Team, one of the first snowboard companies. Jack competed in the first ever snowboarding competition that was held in March of 1981. In 1987 he wrote and produced Street Skatin’ with Rob and Natas, the first street skating instructional video. In 2001 he helped to revive slalom skateboarding by producing the World Slalom Skateboarding Championships in Morro Bay, which was held in Morro Bay through 2006. In 2005 he had a speaking role in Lords of Dogtown as the Del Mar Announcer. During the fall of 2018 he rode an electric skateboard across America.
His skateboard industry experience includes being the Advertising Director at Action Now Magazine and also Transworld Skateboarding Magazine. He has also worked in marketing and promotions for various skateboarding companies. In 2012 he founded and published The Skateboarder’s Journal. Along with his wife Cathy, he founded the Morro Bay Skateboard Museum in 2012, closing it in 2020 due to the pandemic.
In 2021 he wrote, produced and released his first feature film New Providence. His next film With No Direction Home is currently in development.
Jack will be inducted into the Skateboarding Hall of Fame on May 30th, 2024. He currently resides with his wife Cathy in Morro Bay and at 67 years of age is still skateboarding.
BRETT JONES
Brett was born and raised in Fresno Ca. His history with skateboarding started in the early 80’s and continued on through the 90’s. Brett attended college in the late 90’s in San Diego which was skateboarding Mecca. 20 years ago he started collecting skateboards. Not only did it bring back memories of his youth but Brett always had a love for skateboard art. He currently owns 4 cafes in SLO County and displays 90’s memorabilia and skateboards in all the shops. He currently has 300 boards on display and with another 100 at his house. Brett continues to collect but focuses now on limited releases, 80’s and anything David Bowie. But let’s be honest, he’ll buy anything that jumps out at him.
DANIEL PARKS
Daniel Parks was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and moved to San Luis Obispo 24 years ago. His lifelong passions are skateboarding and art, both of which he continues to pursue on a daily basis. He met his wife shortly after graduating from San Francisco State University and they have been married for 25 amazing years. They have two incredible daughters who are studying and following their dreams at California universities. His current projects include a mural in Cayucos, artwork for Bacon Skateboards, designs for Find A Way Records, work as the art director for Unearthed Skateboarding, and a line of artwork for Loose Bearings designs.
