Presented by the Avila Beach Community Foundation
Considered by many the jewel of SLO County, Avila Beach has a fascinating history stetching back from early Chumash days, to the Unocal oil spill, to today. Cal Poly student filmmaker Grace Tucker has produced a short overview of Avila Beach’s history, with interviews with long-time residents of the area and historical photos.
A Q&A with notable Avila Beach residents and historians will follow the screening of the short film.
Then sit back and enjoy California Dreaming, shot in Avila Beach and at the Fremont Theatre in 1978.
Dennis Christopher plays T.T., a young mid-Westerner who comes to a California beach town to learn to surf. This hilarious and campy coming-of-age film is also a fun way to see what Avila Beach looked like before the oil spill that changed the town forever.
