After his wife dies in an auto accident, 67-year-old Trond Sander (Stellan Skarsgård, Chernobyl) moves from Sweden back to his home in the breathtaking but desolate land-scape of eastern Norway. As winter arrives, he encounters a gray-haired neighbor he knew in the summer of 1948. Trond reflects back on that unforgettable bucolic summer as a teen, the last one he spent with his father when they rode wild horses and chopped wood. The father-son relationship is as fascinating as it is difficult. Adapted by Norwegian director Hans Petter Moland from Per Petterson’s beloved 2003 novel “Out Stealing Horses,” this is Norway’s official 2020 Oscar entry.
