Join us for a festive evening as we celebrate award-winning films and our 2018 King Vidor Award recipient, actress Pam Grier, on the stage of the historic Fremont Theatre.
The George Sidney Independent Film Awards, presented in several categories, are juried by film and media professionals. Major festival sponsors will be on hand to present the cash awards, and all winning films will screen at the Downtown Cinemas, following the festival (March 19-22) courtesy of the Movie Experience.
Film legend and 70’s cinema icon Pam Grier will be this year’s King Vidor Award honoree. She is the iconic feminine face of urban cinema in the 70s. She inspired that genre’s mainstream success, and her presence has long served as a muse and inspiration for many actors and filmmakers that followed, most notably Quentin Tarantino and his classic noir, JACKIE BROWN. We are thrilled to celebrate a truly remarkable career and have her here in San Luis Obispo to offer her unique and colorful perspective on the journey she has seen film take, from FOXY BROWN to today.
We are delighted to welcome back Turner Classic Movie Host Ben Mankiewicz, who will present the award and then sit down for an entertaining conversation with this year’s honoree. After the movie, enjoy a screening of the 90s classic, JACKIE BROWN.
