Many of us dream of taking leave of the daily grind and heading out into the great unknown. For Nico Edwards, the director of Sea Gypsies, it was the ocean. He found passage on Infinity, a 120-foot ketch built in the 1970s and crewed by a band of wandering miscreants. It sets sail from Australia to Patagonia via some of the planet’s roughest waters. The documentary manages to be smart and thoughtful, yet fun and rollicking, at the same time. This is a story about sailing, the camaraderie of a shared struggle, and the awe-inspiring power of the natural world. 79 min. USA.
