An estimated 9.1 million Americans served in the military during the Vietnam War (1964-1975). The most controversial war in American history, it spurred protests and anti-military sentiment long after the veterans returned home. Many still struggle; many, though, have come to terms with this pain. The Journey Home explores how Vietnam veterans, representing communities from around the country, have been able to reconcile and heal from their treatment fifty years ago. In turn, it shows how protestors to the war have come to see it was unfair and cruel to take out their anger with the government on the service men and women who only did what they believed to be their patriotic duty. 65 min.
